When did you join pedal? January 2015
How long have you been riding and racing? Riding for 10 years, started racing last year. I had been doing endurance events ever since I started riding and needed to try some new things.
What is your absolute favorite road or trail to ride? I love road riding in Summit County; Vail Pass, Loveland Pass, Hoosier Pass. On a local level, I really enjoy Deer Creek/High Grade since it is accessible from my house.
What piece of bike equipment/gear can you not live without? Hard to say since I am a total gear head. I love my Cannondale SuperSix Evo and have gotten quite attached to my Pactimo Storm Hybrid jacket. I wear it anytime I am riding below 60 degrees. Being the data geek that I am, it is hard to not ride without a powermeter anymore. I also love the Honey Stinger waffles and gels. I want to give a shout-out to pedal. I had lived in Colorado for 3 years before I discovered them. I did not have a shop to call “home” until then. Exceptional staff, service, and product selection.
Favorite thing to do when you’re NOT riding your bike? Sleeping? Seriously, spending time with the family and my kids’ activities.
Favorite motivational quote/saying? There are a few: “Pain is temporary, quitting is forever”. “Do or do not, there is no try.” “If you’re going through hell, keep going”. “You can’t buy happiness but you can buy a bike, and that’s pretty close.”
Best race experience or highlight? I am new to racing but I did my first crit this year and did not crash. Also, I did not finish last. I even got a top ten! (It helps when there are only 12 racing in one’s category). I did a CX race in the frozen snow at 9 degrees–the coldest riding temp I’ve experienced but glad I did it! If it counts as racing, I did Ironman Boulder 70.3 last year which was definitely the hardest 6 hours of physical activity I’ve ever accomplished. I also did the Double Triple Bypass a couple of years ago. What can I say, it’s a long two days on a bike!
What are your goals for 2016? More than anything, I want to get stronger (don’t we all?). I would like to race enough to cat up to 4 and get a more legitimate top 10 along the way. I am looking forward to more CX races and I am also doing a 100 mile gravel grinder/Fondo in Idaho on Labor Day weekend. Should be interesting. More than anything, I just want to have more fun on the bike and continue to make new riding friends.
