Discipline and category: Road – 4. But I love to ride everything!
When did you join pedal? Scott Smith, Heath Holmes and I basically founded the team, so from day one! It’s been the most amazing journey I have ever experienced. We had initial thoughts of 10-12 racers, and today we are over 120 members. I have met and raced and ridden with some of the most amazing people and I now consider all of them friends.
How long have you been riding and racing? I rode a bicycle a lot when I was a kid, but stopped when I got my first car. I also started smoking in high school and quit all sports. I quit smoking for good in September 2011 and started riding mountain bikes with my best friend the following spring. I took up road cycling shortly thereafter and have never looked back. This is my 3rd year racing.
What is your absolute favorite road or trail to ride? My favorite front range MTB trails are Lair o’ the Bear and Buffalo Creek. Moab is my favorite place of all to ride mountain bikes. My favorite road rides are Squaw Pass, Sedalia to Palmer Lake, High Grade and, as of last weekend, Golden Gate Canyon. I’m typically not much of a climber, but I love the serenity of the mountains and I LOVE descending!
What piece of bike equipment/gear can you not live without? I love all of our sponsors. From Balance Athletics giving us a space to train for the winter, to Honey Stinger (which has been my go-to food for a long time, particularly the Dark Chocolate Mocha Cherry Bars) to Quad Appliance, Romano’s Italian Restaurant & Peakview Realty for providing us with financial backing, to Threshold Endurance for providing both team and individual training support. Not to mention all of our amazing equipment sponsors.
The things I couldn’t live without, from a training perspective, are my Stages Power Meter and my Cannondale CAAD 10. I never knew how much difference the bike made, and how important having a way to plan and define training can be until I got a way to do so (power meter).
Favorite thing to do when you’re NOT riding your bike? I love, love, love movies! My family and I spend a large portion of our lives quoting movies and finding ways to equate movie situations to our everyday lives. I also love to teach and study history. Oh, and Halloween! Halloween is my Christmas, so (as some people can tell you), watch out for my Facebook feed during the month of October. Muahaha…
Favorite motivational quote/saying? As someone who is not a great climber, these two speak to me most:

Best race experience or highlight? My best race experience to date was at the Classica de Rio Grande last year. I had just come off of an injury, which required surgery and I was ordered off the bike for 2 months. I had been released to ride again 6 weeks prior to the race and I spent every waking moment preparing for that race. It was to be my big comeback! It was my first ever road race and as it turned out, I really enjoyed it and it suited my strengths. I was able to stay in the pack for the entire race and participate in the sprint finish, getting 5th place (so far, my best placing).
What are your goals for 2016? I upgraded to a Cat 4 last year, so my 2016 goals are to be competitive and help the team. So far this year, I have greatly improved my fitness and strength, so I feel good about this goal. I also plan to enter and complete the Steamboat Stage race this year. I had to drop out last year, so I need redemption!
